Judge determines that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys requires conservatorship due to declining mental health

A judge has ruled that Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, should be placed under a conservatorship to oversee his personal and medical decisions due to a diagnosed "major neurocognitive disorder." The decision came after a hearing where evidence showed Wilson's consent to the arrangement and his incapacity to make healthcare choices.

The judge appointed Wilson's longtime representatives, publicist Jean Sievers and manager LeeAnn Hard, as his conservators, with no significant objections raised. Wilson's two daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson, requested to be included in a group text chain regarding their father's condition and to be consulted on medical matters, which the judge approved.

Wilson's deteriorating condition, as described by a doctor's declaration, includes medication for dementia and an inability to provide for his basic needs. His representatives, Sievers and Hard, have a longstanding relationship with Wilson and his wife, who support the conservatorship.

A court-appointed attorney for Wilson, Robert Frank Cipriano, reported that Wilson acknowledged the necessity of the conservatorship and trusted the judgment of his representatives. Cipriano's observations during a visit to Wilson's residence highlighted Wilson's physical limitations and cognitive struggles.

Despite his health challenges, Wilson continues to be involved in ongoing projects and is supported by his wife, children, caregiver, and medical team. The decision to seek conservatorship was made collaboratively to ensure stability and continuity in Wilson's life.

Wilson's case represents a traditional use of conservatorship, distinct from high-profile cases like Britney Spears', and highlights the challenges faced by individuals experiencing irreversible mental decline. His assets are managed through a trust, eliminating the need for a conservatorship of the estate.

Throughout his legendary career as a musical innovator, Wilson has struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues. Despite these challenges, he remains a deeply respected figure in the music industry, honored for his contributions to the Beach Boys and his pioneering work in vocal harmony
